But don’t I need to use a solicitor to go to court?

 

No. There is no need for most people to engage a solicitor in family law cases.

All you need is good, sensible advice from someone who has experience of the system and knows how to get the results you want for your children.

Don’t worry, if we think you do need to use a solicitor and barrister we will tell you and help point you towards the services you need.

How will this benefit my employees?

 

85% of stress originates from issues wholly or partly outside of work. Losing touch with children after divorce is one of the most traumatic causes of stress. Tackling this makes it more likely the person will remain at work, and will be better able to concentrate while at work.

We already offer employee counselling services. Why would we need specific help for family breakdown?

 

Counselling can help an individual come to terms with loss, even the loss of one's children, but we take practical steps to prevent that loss occurring in the first place. This is more effective at preventing stress than counselling alone.

Wouldn't a solicitor be the best source of help?

 

Court proceedings are adversarial, and provoke hostility between separated parents. Our aim is to keep children issues out of court, by brokering agreement between the parents - we are pro-active and look more widely than just the legal process. If court proceedings do begin, your employee may be unable to afford solicitors fees and may not qualify for legal aid. In this case, we can advise on court procedure, help them complete court forms, and attend court with them as a McKenzie Friend.
